Tia Whinery has been a resident of New Canaan for over 12 years and a lifelong Republican.  She and her husband Charlie have 2 children, who attend Saxe Middle School.  You can often see her walking their dog around town

Currently, Tia is President of New Canaan Youth Field Hockey where she managed the migration to a new registration platform this year.  She is also the Co-Chair of Ways & Means for the Saxe PTC overseeing fundraising.

Since arriving in New Canaan in late 2010, Tia has been very involved in the community and local organizations.  She has served on the Newcomers Board, helping to start the Working Parents Group.  She was on the Board of Trustees for the New Canaan Nature Center for 6 years, serving on the executive committee 5 of those year as Secretary and Preschool Liaison.  She has also served at the board level with the South School PTC, New Canaan Field Club, and Newcomers Holiday House Tour.

Along with her board service, Tia has been an active volunteer within the schools, a girl’s house league lacrosse coach and later a team manager with NCLA, Troop Co-Leader with New Canaan Girl Scouts, and served in various roles at the Congregational Church of New Canaan where her family are members.

Prior to moving to New Canaan Tia spent over a decade in the retail industry in merchandising with major specialty retailers including J. Crew, A&F and Hollister.  She graduated from Boston College with a degree in English Literature.

Service is important to her, and she has always found ways to serve the New Canaan community and schools.  She believes that healthy, high functioning boards are key to the success of any organization and in running for the Board of Education wants to be a part of the continuing excellence of the New Canaan Public Schools.
