TALK IS CHEAP ACTIONS MATTER: Democrat Lies Don’t Hold Water

Recently, New Canaan First Selectman Dionna Carlson joined Greenwich First Selectman Fred Camillo at Greenwich Town Hall for a press conference along with State Rep. Tom O’Dea, Gubernatorial Candidate and current State Senator Ryan Fazio, and Joe Kelly, State Senate Candidate for the 36th District, along with other Greenwich Legislators to discuss growing concerns of residents about the lack of infrastructure investment in CT.

Local leaders met to raise public awareness about the lack of adequate infrastructure investment and planning by the state to support the coming mandates and development pressures of legislation in 8002 (now Public Act 25-1).

Public Act 25-1 will force exponential housing development and state mandated changes to zoning – like the “Fair Share” allocations of deeply affordable housing. As background, Public Act 25-1 was raised in a 48-hour “emergency session” called by Governor Lamont in November, 2025 and passed by only Democrats, including New Canaan’s own State Rep. Lucy Dathan and State Senator Ceci Maher who voted in favor of the bill. Their votes did not protect local control and they did not represent New Canaan’s interests when they passed that bill.

NEW CANAAN needs representatives who consistently and forcefully defend our right to make zoning decisions locally. Saying you support local control is easy. Defending it when it conflicts with the priorities of your own Democratic party is the test. With their vote on 8002, Dathan and Maher failed to support New Canaan residents and our local interests.

Housing policy must account for roads, schools, sewers, water, electricity, natural gas, public safety, flooding, environmental conditions and the character and capacity of individual neighborhoods. Local planning and zoning officials understand those conditions better than legislators writing statewide mandates in Hartford.

New Canaan residents should judge all legislators by what they do, not simply by what they say. Bring checks and balances back to Hartford, Vote ROW B for strong advocates not only talk the talk, but walk the walk to protect local control.
