My husband and I moved to New Canaan 13 years ago with our two sons, both of whom graduated from New Canaan High School.
Inspiration to run for Town Council and Priorities
We made New Canaan our forever home because it is a unique community, where families thrive, traditions are honored, and smart, forward-looking decisions guide our future. I’m running because I see tough challenges ahead and want to help address these challenges in an effective and thoughtful way:
-
Public safety – In an emergency, every second counts, I will work with town leaders and technology partners to address lack of cell service for our first responders, especially EMS, in a way that respects our town’s beauty and health concerns, while ensuring that help is always just a call away.
I also want to address the growing concerns around e-bike and e-scooter safety, especially for young riders and pedestrians. As their use becomes more common in town, we need clear guidelines, education, and enforcement to prevent injuries and ensure our streets, sidewalks, and trails are safe for everyone. -
Local zoning control – HB5002 housing bill, that threatened the unique character of our neighborhoods, our infrastructure, schools and open spaces, was just vetoed by the governor, but the fight for local zoning control is far from over. I believe in smart, community-driven planning – not mandates from Hartford and will continue to work hard to make sure our town’s voice is heard and respected.
-
Rising energy costs – we can’t ignore the rising cost of energy that’s hitting families, seniors, and small businesses. I advocate for practical, local solutions – like expanded access to energy-efficient upgrades, responsible use of state and federal grants, and long-term planning that saves money and reduces dependence on volatile energy markets.
-
Environment preservation – From Waveny to Irwin Park, from the Land Trust trails to our tree-lined streets—New Canaan’s natural beauty defines us. However, due to the growing strain on the watershed protection zones, we are experiencing progressively worsening drought conditions. I will champion policies that protect open spaces from overdevelopment, water-conscious zoning, tree canopy protection and expansion, upgrade of stormwater and drainage systems, support regional watershed coordination and monitor development impacts on water tables. I will work to keep our water safe, and our green spaces intact for generations to come.
