A resident of New Canaan for nearly ten years, Phil Hogan has immersed himself in the community by coaching a variety of youth sports and proudly serving on the New Canaan Board of Education (BOE). Phil and his wife Milana live in the South part of town with their four children, Holly (14), Casey (12), Charlie (11) and Kyle (9), and their dog Clover (2). All of the Hogan children are currently in the NCPS system, and have been since kindergarten.

Phil is the current Vice Chair of the New Canaan BOE and is running for his second four-year term. He also served in the Vice Chair capacity and on the Board’s Executive Committee in his second year on the Board. Since getting elected in 2021, Phil has consistently prioritized the health and well-being of New Canaan kids. He spearheaded the effort to end masking in schools by writing a letter from the Board to Governor Lamont asking him to end the state’s mask mandate. Once the mandate was lifted, Phil encouraged the schools to be laser-focused on learning loss so New Canaan students who had fallen behind could get back up to speed.

Away from COVID-related matters, Phil voted in favor of the healthy start time initiative which alleviated pressure on high schoolers and brought the elementary school start times in line with one another. He steered the school security discussion toward the proven Student Resource Officer (SRO) solution rather than costlier alternatives. Finally, as a self-described free range parent whose children clean mailboxes, sell lemonade, and shovel driveways on snowy days, Phil was instrumental in both Saxe’s phone free initiative and broader NCPS efforts to curtail the unnecessary use of technology in schools.

In addition to his presence on the BOE, Phil is a well-known youth sports coach. While he’s aged out of coaching soccer, softball and flag football, he maintains a steady presence on the tackle football sidelines and baseball dugouts, and relishes the chance to help each and every New Canaan child get the best out of themselves on the sports fields. Phil and his family are long-time parishioners at St. Aloysius. When they’re not at church or juggling a myriad of sports commitments, the Hogans play a fair amount of family poker and pickleball.

Phil is a 2001 graduate of Boston College where he earned a degree in Economics. He worked as an analyst on Wall Street for many years before working for a couple startups. These days he invests independently and spends an inordinate amount of time watching his kids compete in sports. A level-headed, collaborative member of the BOE, and someone who’s formed close relationships with district administrators and teachers, Phil is running for reelection to ensure that New Canaan’s schools and families continue their track record of producing well-rounded young adults with the capability to lead the next generation.
