I have been passionate about education all of my life. I graduated Duke University with an A.B. in Economics and French and started my working life in the world of finance. However, the pull to teach eventually won out: I earned my Masters from Columbia University Teachers College and began teaching middle school mathematics. I taught for several years, including two years at Saxe Middle School, before taking a sabbatical to raise our three children.
When our youngest began kindergarten at East School, I taught at First Presbyterian Nursery School for 4 years before committing myself more fully to volunteering at church, in our community, and at East, Saxe, and New Canaan High School, where our children did and do attend. In March, I was appointed to serve out the unexpired term of Hazel Hobbs, an educator whom I have admired professionally and known personally for many years.
I have lived much of my life in New Canaan, having gone to elementary, middle and high school here. I love this community and I am grateful for the education I received from the many skilled and passionate teachers who taught me. When my husband Michael and I moved back to New Canaan in 2004, we were excited for our three children to benefit from the outstanding education and opportunities from which I benefited, and which this town and school district still provide.
I come from a long and proud line of educators. I also come from a long and proud line of committed and dedicated volunteers who believe in giving back to our community. I passionately believe that serving on the Board of Education allows me the opportunity to help keep our school district and our town at their peak.
